We've been a big fan of Andy Bigg's first offering, the Gura Gear Kiboko 30L, for some time. Nothing balances airline restrictions and large lens capacity like the original Kiboko. No surprise then that we are hugely excited about the announcement that the Kiboko 30L is about to have a little brother, the Kiboko 22L+.
The 22L+ is, quite literally, cut from the same cloth as the 30L. Both are constructed from high-tech VX-21 sail cloth resulting in a pack as light as it is strong. Also familiar are the butterfly-style compartment panels, international carry-on compliance and ample internal capacity. The 22L+ also shares the removable waist belt and removable rain cover from the updated Kiboko 30L.
However, this new kid on the block is not just a pint sized version of it's older brother. The 22L+ adds a new chunkier harness system and a 15" Laptop compartment, probably the most asked for feature since the release of the original Kiboko. It's squatter than its older brother sizing up at 35.6cmW x 45.7cmT x 22.9cmD (14"W x 18"T x 9"D). The 22L's shorter stature means that while it is still happy accommodating a Canon 500mm f4, it can not do so with a body attached. Canon and Nikon 400f2.8, 600f4 and Canon 800f4 lenses as well as some large pro bodies with L-brackets are also unable to be squeezed into the 22L+.
We can't wait to take a closer look at the 22L+. With it's ability to hold a super-tele and a laptop and still meet carry-on baggage regulations it makes the perfect partner to the 30L. No doubt it will feature prominently in our upcoming Journey to the Ice Bears. We're looking forward to giving a full review on its performance in the not too distant future.
