Polar Bear Newborn Cubs - Day Four

If things were bad before, they just got worse.

The weather came in today and destroyed any chance of finding bears. Winds started at 40kph increasing to 70kph through the day. Driving ice rain came along for the ride. Low visibility.

We headed out in the morning but it wasn't long before it was obvious our efforts were going to be in vain. By about 11 we stopped at the edge of the frozen lake and goofed around playing in the snow before lunch. Afterwards we admitted defeat and headed back to the lodge for the afternoon and evening.

It's a cruel blow as the forecast for tomorrow is also horrid. As hard as it is to sit here without bears and as hard as it is to face going home empty handed, we all agree that the it is this difficulty and uncertainty that makes the eventual sighting so rewarding. This is the real deal and sometimes it doesn't work out. That is just core to what makes the experience so dramatic.

Man, that's rough. I'm impressed you guys made the trip and the effort though.
